I caught burglar trying to rob my house so I wellied him – I let him go for his own safety
A SUPERGRAN told how she “wellied” a burglar – but let him flee because she was worried about hurting him too much.
Wilma Alma, 79, caught vile thug Nathan Taylor, 31, ransacking her house in Perth and ordered him to empty his pockets.
When he refused she lashed out and the pair battled for about 15 minutes.
When he escaped the pensioner chased and caught up with him but eventually released him from her grasp.
She said: “I felt myself getting uptight so I had to let him go.
“I couldn’t have been answerable for what I was going to do to him. I let him go for his own safety really.
“I gave as good as I got – maybe even a little bit better than that. He’s no big hardman. He should be embarrassed.”
Wilma was out in the garden and tried to head inside for a cuppa but couldn’t open the door.
She got the spare key from the neighbour and was confronted by hooded Taylor, who had stuck the lock on behind him so he wouldn’t be disturbed.
But she wasn’t spooked and went for him when she noticed his pockets were bulging with her stuff. In the struggle he dropped a £40 pair of earrings that he’d nicked.
Wilma said: “I wellied right into him. I took hold of him with both hands and threw him against the stairs.

“I told him to give everything back but he said he was looking for someone called Willie.
“We tussled for a while and I wouldn’t let the eejit go. You should have heard the language. My downstairs neighbour came round and told me to stop swearing.”
Taylor broke free and made it into the front garden before determined Wilma caught up with him.
After another struggle he ran off with all her medication and jewellery worth about £1,000, including her late husband Geert’s wedding ring.
Wilma said: “It’s really upsetting that he got away with that. It’s irreplaceable because it’s the last thing I had of him.”
Wilma’s neighbour called cops and the great-granny identified Taylor from a picture.
But when the case called in court the addict was caged for just six months after he admitted theft.
Wilma said: “That’s just bed and breakfast. He’ll be back on the street in no time and just laugh that off.
“If I was the judge I would have cut his b*ws off. But I hope the boys inside give him grief for getting stopped by a great-grandmother.”
Wilma refuses to leave the house where she’s lived for 20 years and she has no intention of quitting gardening.
But from now on she’s making sure her door is always locked.
She said: “If he dares to come back here I’ll be ready for him. My pals have joked that they’re going to buy me a pair of boxing gloves. They might come in handy.”
Taylor’s solicitor David Holmes said his client wanted to apologise but has difficulty with drugs and doesn’t remember the incident.
