Ryan Seacrest Says He Had to Do a Mid-Show Underwear Change After a Wardrobe Malfunction During the 'American Idol' Finale
Ryan Seacrest had a crazy wardrobe malfunction during the most recent episode of American Idol!
During Monday’s episode (May 23) of Live with Kelly and Ryan, the 47-year-old host said that he was forced to do a quick underwear change during a commercial break for the show’s season 20 finale when viewers noticed the pair he had on left little to the imagination.

“Apparently, America voted and said there was anatomy in the shot,” he joked to co-host Kelly Ripa. He added, “There was just panic about it, and we changed it.”
He said the experience was “a little embarrassing” and explained that the issue was brought to his attention by longtime stylist Miles Siggins, who is “in charge of the suits that I wear’ and “makes sure everything is lined up and buttoned.”
Miles let him know what was happening after the live show had gotten started. “We go to commercial and he says, ‘Can I tell you something? We need to change your underwear,’” Ryan recalled. “I said, ‘What do you mean we need to change my underwear?’”
Unfortunately, Ryan didn’t have a backup pair of underwear on him, so Miles swapped with him.
“He says, ‘Don’t worry, I got mine,’” Ryan said. “He’s English, so he has shorter, tighter ones. … They were tight, elastic underwear.”
He continued, “It was in the middle of a live show! We go backstage during the commercial and find a little corner and I’m literally taking off my pants, off my underwear, and putting his on.”
“It was the first for me for a live show,” Ryan added. “Anything for [American Idol]. It’s a family show. Thank you Miles!”
Kelly informed Ryan that he had made the wrong call. “No, no, no,” she said. “Change the camera shot! Crotch up! I would have said, ‘You get that camera and put it from here up.’ I’m not wearing Miles‘ panties.”
But once she learned the shot wasn’t an unflattering one, she teased: “It was enhancing? Well then I would have insisted they stay!”
