My friend blew up at me for using her iPhone charger – I don’t see the problem but people are telling me the same thing

SOME people are more protective than others over their phone chargers and one Reddit user has sparked debate over charger etiquette.

In a post titled “AITA for using my roommate’s iPhone charger when she’s gone”, a student described how their roommate lashed out when she realized her charger had been used.

AITA stands for ‘Am I the a**h***?” and a popular Reddit thread is dedicated to letting perplexed people know if they’re at fault.

Reddit user u/Nice_Werewolf292 wrote: “For context I’ve had a 39 degree fever for the past week and the only source of entertainment has been my phone.

“My charger broke and I joked about my phone probably being evil and breaking every charger it touches.

“Either way I wasn’t able to leave the house to buy a new one since I’m still sick with a sore throat.

“Later my college roommate came home and asked if I had borrowed her charger which I told her I did. She got mad at me and told me to not use it again.”

The college student went on to claim that the roommates usually share everything from food to clothes.

They added: “We share a room so no entering of private space was necessary to retrieve charger, I simply saw it plugged in next to my laptop and hooked my phone on it as I was typing on my laptop.”

The redditor asked other users of the social media platform to let them know whether they were at fault in this siutation.

A large majority of the comments agreed with the roommate’s right to be annoyed.

One person commented: “YTA, you begin by telling us you go through phone chargers which your roommate knows so of course she doesn’t want you to use hers.

“You don’t blame her right? Just order yourself a few charges to keep on hand.”

Another added: “YTA, it’s her property and you need to ask first. Buy your own charger and treat them nicely so they don’t break.”

While another said: “Soft YTA – I know a charger doesn’t seem like a big deal but it’s still polite to ask before using other people’s things. If you entered her room to retrieve it then solid YTA.”

A few users did disagree with the owner of the charger and thought she should have shared that if she was sharing all the other items in the room.
