DEAR DEIDRE: IT seems like my sister-in-law is hell-bent on forcing me out of the family business.
She has put money into the business – a large garden centre – and is very involved with doing the books and helping out.

But she never asks how I am getting on and won’t be cordial.
My brother can see what she is doing but won’t do anything about it. He just wants a quiet life.
My dad doesn’t want to get involved either. They both hate confrontation.
I am a 31-year-old man. My brother is 33 and his wife is 32.
My sister-in-law is always shouting at the family. It is very upsetting.
She is behaving like a bully and nobody will stand up to her.
Every problem gets a personal reply, usually within 24 hours weekdays.

My brother says he is the boss but that is in name only. We all know it is his wife who runs the show.
It is very frustrating because I feel like she is coming between me and my brother but he won’t do anything about it.
DEIDRE SAYS: Your brother brought her into the family but it can be a challenge to maintain goodwill and calm in the face of her aggression.
While you might not be able to change her behaviour, you do not have to bear the brunt of her outbursts.
Simply walk away when she starts. You don’t have to say a word.
