Teddy Sheringham urges Spurs to sign West Ham star to keep Harry Kane happy
Teddy Sheringham has claimed Tottenham need to sign players of Declan Rice’s quality in order to keep Harry Kane and Heung-min Son happy.
England captain Kane came close to leaving Spurs last summer when Manchester City showed intense interest, but Pep Guardiola’s side ultimately failed to prise him away from North London (Sky Sports).
Having stayed in N17, the 28-year-old endured a slow start to the season, scoring just once in his first 13 Premier League outings (Transfermarkt).
But since Tottenham dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo and hired Antonio Conte, Kane has returned to his best alongside Son, who is mounting a Golden Boot charge with 21 goals (BBC Sport).
The pair have played a key role in lifting Spurs into prime contention for a place in next season’s Champions League, and Sheringham believes the club needs to bring in quality talent around them.
The former Spurs striker suggested West Ham and England midfielder Rice, who he named as the ‘best in the world’ in his position, would be an ideal player to recruit to keep Kane and Son on board.
Sheringham told The Sun: “West Ham supporters wouldn’t like it but Declan Rice would be ideal for Tottenham.
“Tottenham have got to go to the next level to keep players like Son and Kane happy. You can’t be signing average players.
“If you want to go to the next level as a football club you’ve got to be signing the likes of Declan Rice.
“I think he’s awesome. I think he’s the best midfield player in the world at the moment. He’s up there with the best players in the world.”
He added: “I think he can do everything; he can pass the ball, he can win the ball, he can run with the ball – as a midfield player he has everything to be sensational.
“He has already been sensational in his career and I think he can go on to be even better.”

Rice has been excellent for West Ham this season and he is getting better and better the more games he plays in his young career.
Obviously, it would be an expensive move and difficult one to complete given the hatred between Spurs and West Ham, but he would be a massive addition in midfield if it was to happen.
