Half of British drivers have no idea what these car dashboard icons mean – how many can you get right?
WE are all tripping the light fantastic with the myriad symbols on today’s car dashboards.
From images of spanners and squiggly wires, to scary exclamation marks, it is enough to flummox even the most tech-forward and ramp up cabin fever between you and the other half.
But if you have no blinking clue what all the lights are on about, you are not alone.
We told this week how more than half of drivers are bamboozled by these and car switches and buttons, a survey by auto trader WeBuyAnyCar found.

1) Brake system – could be any problem from fluid leaking to overheating.
2) Airbag – best get this checked so you stay safe.
3) Glow plug – in diesel cars this heats your engine before starting, so do not start it up before this light goes out.
4) Battery not charging – call for assistance or visit garage.
5) Engine management system – could be any number of faults, so find a mechanic.
6) Car service due.
7) Tyre-pressure – at least one of your tyres is low – top up at a garage.
8) Engine temperature – pull over and wait for it to cool, for at least 20 minutes.
9) Handbrake is on – release it to move.
10) Brake pad problem – you have roughly 1,000 miles left before you need to replace it.
11) Pedal alert – on automatics, reminds driver to press brake pedal while moving lever out of park position.
12) Engine oil – If it runs out, this could wreck your engine, so check your dipstick and refill ASAP.
