KILLER Levi Bellfield was introduced to his future wife by the Yorkshire Ripper, The Sun can reveal.
The shocking connection emerged as PM Boris Johnson said he was “sickened and appalled” that Bellfield wants to marry in jail.
Ripper Peter Sutcliffe was friends with the woman, a blonde in her 40s, when Bellfield — who was on the same wing and helped tidy his pal’s cell — asked if he could be put in touch after seeing her pic.
Bellfield, 53, serving two whole-life terms for three murders including that of Milly Dowler, 13, in 2002, began writing to the woman before sending gifts and poems.
They began speaking on the phone before she visited him at Frankland jail, Co Durham, where he proposed.
A source confirmed: “What people don’t realise is that the woman was friends with Sutcliffe for years before he died, although there was no romance between them.

“She had written to Sutcliffe to ask about his case.
“But Bellfield actually asked his permission to write to the woman about a year before Sutcliffe died. Sutcliffe agreed — so was an unwitting matchmaker.”
Sutcliffe, who killed 13 women and died in 2020, was losing his sight when he got pally with dad-of-11 Bellfield.
The source added: “Bellfield helped him with food and keeping his cell tidy then took the opportunity to ask about his visitor.
“He knew about their friendship and was a bit jealous.
“He then started turning on the charm — and remarkably she fell for it.
“Then this happens. He and his fiancée know all about the reaction to the story but are insistent it will go ahead.”
Mr Johnson’s spokesman said yesterday: “The PM is sickened and appalled by this, and his thoughts are with the families of his victims.”
Bellfield applied under the Human Rights Act which the Government aims to replace with a new law.
Lord Chancellor Dominic Raab said there were huge safeguarding issues over the engagement and it was very difficult to see how a “dangerous, deceitful serial killer” such as Bellfield can prove he is no risk.

Bellfield’s ex Johanna Collings, mum to two of his children, said of his fiancée: “Maybe she thinks she can change him.
“I feel sorry for her.”
