Chase Young has finally come around to embracing the Washington Commanders’ nickname. In an interview on Sports Seriously with Mackenzie Salmon, Young made it clear he’s excited about the franchise’s rebranding.
“Learning on the ‘why’ we are named the Commanders and the history behind it, I would say I’m definitely behind it and ready to go to work. I’m ready to show people why they should be supporting the name,” Young told Salmon.
In an interview last November, prior to the official name change, Young was asked to grade potential names and gave the ‘Commanders’ an ‘F’. His grade resurfaced in February when the official name was announced, but he’s since had a change of heart, evening pointing out his affinity for the Commanders’ all-black uniforms.
“They look a little like the Steelers but I like the black uniforms ,” said Young.
On the field, Young is looking to bounce back from a disappointing sophomore campaign where he only recorded 1.5 sacks and had his season cut short due to an ACL tear in Week 10 against Tampa Bay.
“I feel like I grew through this process,” he said. “ definitely tests your physical and mental. It was a test but I feel strong and like I can come back from anything. I learned to not take anything for granted.”
