Report claims young new candidate ‘threatens’ Antonio Conte for PSG job

Calciomercato.it have claimed that Spezia boss Thiago Motta ‘threatens’ Antonio Conte’s candidacy for the Paris Saint-Germain job.

Reports emerged last week suggesting that Conte was interested in replacing Mauricio Pochettino as the next PSG boss (Julien Laurens – talkSPORT).

The Tottenham head coach has denied the speculation as ‘fake news’ (Goal) but that has not put an end to the rumours, with Le Parisien reporting on Tuesday (via Sport Witness) that Conte sees himself in the PSG dugout next season despite any obstacles.

This has now been backed up by Calciomercato.it, who claim that Conte has made specific requests to the Ligue 1 giants including a new director of football and the signings of Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Nicolo Barella.

It is explained that PSG’s chances of landing their first-choice target, Zinedine Zidane, are evaporating and Joachim Low is also in consideration for the role.

However, Calciomercato.it add that Motta is actually Conte’s biggest competitor for the PSG job, with the Brazilian having represented the Parisians during his playing days and he even previously coached their Under-19 side.

Spurs Web Opinion

Motta has a special connection with PSG but one would expect the Ligue 1 giants to pursue a manager who is more proven at the top level than the Brazilian. I suspect PSG will not be in a hurry to make an appointment and will wait to see how Conte’s talks with the Spurs hierarchy progress at the end of the season.
