BRITAIN’S Got Talent singer, Ed Drewett, has had a stellar songwriting career since leaving the show and has written for some of the biggest names in the business.
Before Ed, 34, made it to the semi-finals of the eighth series of the ITV talent show in 2014 he had already hits for One Direction and The Wanted.
He auditioned with an original song called Blink about “finding your inner power when things get a bit hard”.
The judges loved it with Alesha Dixon telling him, “it’s so nice for you to come from behind the scenes and step out onto the stage with what I personally think is a hit record”.
Ed revealed he auditioned for BGT he had “few avenues left” when it came to his own performing career.
“You’re talking to someone who’s been dropped twice from two major record labels and tried to release independently,” he told the BBC in 2014.
“What’s great about Britain’s Got Talent is there is obviously a lot of viewers and I can sing my own songs.
Ed was the brains behind songs such as One Direction’s Best Song Ever, The Wanted’s All Time Low and Dear Darlin’ by Olly Murs.

Since leaving the show, he has written music for Little Mix, The Vamps and even Britney Spears.
More recently, Ed co-wrote the United Kingdom’s Eurovision entry, My Last Breath, in 2020 but the event was cancelled that year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The singer married wife Daisy England-Drewett and the pair are parents to two gorgeous kids.
They welcomed daughter Lula in March 2019 and became parents again to daughter Ralphie in December last year.
Ed’s time on BGT was not without controversy, after a conspiracy theory emerged that head judge and show creator Simon Cowell has planted the singer on the show.
Rumours swirled that Simon wanted Ed on the show so he could sign the songwriter to his label Syco, the same label as One Direction.
But Ed shut down that speculation.
“I’m not actually connected with One Direction at all. I never met Simon Cowell before any of the auditions,” he told Digital Spy at the time.

“But I can completely see why people think, ‘Oh, hang on, One Direction are with Syco, Syco do Britain’s Got Talent, they must be paying him.’
“Not at all. It’s just if someone wants a song, I’m going to give it to them, especially if they’re One Direction.”
