Cause of Lyon Co. Southern Star fire under investigation
LYON COUNTY (KSNT) - Firefighting crews battled a blaze in Lyon County for 45 minutes Wednesday morning.
Southern Star is investigating the fire which was reported Wednesday morning at its Americus facility on Road E in Emporia, according to Karen Goedde, Communications and Public Relations Director for Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline.
According to Goedde a Southern Star employee noticed smoke just before 7 a.m. and activated the emergency response, shutting down the station and notifying local authorities.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained to the Southern Star's facility.
Firefighters and the Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrived just after 7 a.m. to find a building at the Southern Star transmission plant on fire. The building is 5 miles south of Americus.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, the fire was out by 7:55 a.m. Investigators are working with crews on the scene to find the cause.
Southern Star is a transporter of natural gas, with approximately 5,800 miles of natural gas transmission pipeline in the Midwest and Mid-Continent regions.
