Kim Cattrall Explains Why She Turned Down 'Sex & the City 3,' Reveals If She Was Ever Friends with Her Co-Stars
Kim Cattrall just gave her first extensive interview about turning down Sex and the City 3, not appearing in And Just Like That, and more.
Some backstory about the drama that has gone on for years behind-the-scenes: In 2017, Kim revealed that she was never friends with her co-stars and the relationships on set felt “toxic.” She also revealed she wouldn’t do a third film with them. Then, months later in early 2018, Kim‘s brother suddenly passed away and Sarah Jessica wrote a comment on Kim‘s Instagram post, expressing her condolences and seemingly, mending their broken relationship. Later on, Kim suddenly lashed out at SJP for “exploiting” her family’s tragedy. Kim was rumored to be the reason why a third Sex and the City movie never came to fruition.

On why she turned down Sex and the City 3: “It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough. I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me. The way forward seemed clear.”
On if she was asked to return for And Just Like That: “I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media.”
On the Sex & the City 3 storyline where Miranda’s teen son sends unwanted dick pics to Samantha: “It’s heartbreaking.”
On what she would have liked to see from the third film: “I would have preferred for all of us to have some kind of event to warrant a third film. That didn’t happen. But also, I was ready. And this is exactly what I wished for: to be in different places playing different characters because I’m a character actress. And as difficult as it was, and as scary as it is to stand up and not be bullied by the press or the fans or whomever — to just say, I’m good. I’m on this track. It was so great working with you. I so enjoyed it, but I’m over here.”
On if she was friends with her co-stars or if it was ever contentious: “I guess it’s how you define friends. I think we were colleagues. My colleagues aren’t my friends. It was professional.”
On if she’d ever play Samantha again: “That’s a no. It’s powerful to say no.”
