Sonic Prime Animated Show First Look Revealed In Netflix Video

Netflix unveils the first look at their Sonic Prime animated show. The world's favorite blue hedgehog has seen countless animated adaptations. However, the new Netflix series seems to be coming at the exact right time following the character's recent surge in popularity due to the live-action/animated hybrid, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. With an impressive $147 million haul at the domestic box office, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the United States.

While Paramount's successful film franchise is set to expand to the small screen with a spinoff series focusing on Idris Elba's Knuckles, Sonic Prime is an unrelated project based on the beloved video game coming to Netflix sometime this year. Produced in partnership with Sega, WildBrain, and Man Of Action Entertainment, Sonic Prime will consist of 24 episodes and thrust the blue blur into a high-speed adventure involving the mysterious Shatterverse, resulting in many moments of self-discovery and redemption for the titular hedgehog.

Now, the first official look at Sonic Prime is here. Towards the end of a video from Netflix After School previewing the streaming service's upcoming slate of animated shows, a short clip shows Sonic zooming through rings before stopping to say, "I know what you're thinking. I'm good! And powerful, apparently. Jealous?" Check out the first look at Sonic Prime below, starting at the 1:50 mark in the video:

Along with the first official look at Sonic Prime, this is the first time fans are hearing the hedgehog's voice in the series, which is provided by the young but experienced voice actor Griffin Puatu. The brief clip also reveals how Sonic and his world will look in the series. Netflix and their animation team have done a commendable job recreating the iconic character's likeness and some recognizable settings. The short clip appears to take place in the Green Hill Zone, the first level of the original platform game from 1991.

Considering that Sonic Prime is one of many animated shows based on the Sega video game series, it has to do something significant to stand out from the pack. Other than its accurate visuals, it appears to be doing that by hoping on the recent multiverse trend. Through the Shatterverse, Sonic will encounter variants of characters like Tails (voiced by The Biggest Loser's Jillian Michaels) and Amy Rose (Kira Tozer). Fans have many reasons to be encouraged by the first look at Netflix's Sonic Prime.
