Halloween Ends will bring the reboot trilogy to an end, and the footage shown at Cinema Con supports the theories about Laurie and Michael's deaths.
The description of the Halloween Ends footage shown at Cinema Con teases a lot of action between Laurie Strode and Michal Myers, but it also supports the theories about Laurie and Michael’s deaths. The Halloween franchise joined the trend of reboots and “requels” with a new trilogy that serves as a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 horror classic but ignores all sequels that came after it, retconning the saga one more time. The reboot trilogy is coming to an end with Halloween Ends, which has been teased as a very different movie from its predecessors.
The Halloween reboot trilogy began in 2018 with the movie of the same name, directed by David Gordon Green, and as it ignores all sequels, in this new timeline Michael Myers and Laurie Strode are not related, and he was captured hours after he tried to kill Laurie in 1978. Forty years later, Michael escaped and returned to Haddonfield to continue his killing spree, but Laurie was now ready to confront him. The new Halloween movies introduced Laurie’s daughter, Karen (Judy Greer), and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak), who joined the fight against Michael. Unfortunately, the second entry, Halloween Kills, repeated some old franchise mistakes and sidelined Laurie, killed Karen, and made Michael Myers supernatural again.
The final installment, Halloween Ends, has been described as a “coming-of-age” story by Gordon Green and different from the previous Halloween movies in the reboot timeline, but Curtis has also warned the audience that the movie will make many people angry. Halloween Ends is scheduled for an October 2022 release, and while there’s still time before a trailer is released, the footage shown at Cinema Con supports the theories about Halloween Ends seeing the deaths of Laurie and Michael Myers.
The Halloween Ends footage shown at Cinema Con highlighted a fight between Laurie and Michael, with the former springing out of a closet to fight The Boogeyman, who then bashes her around. Laurie takes a knife and impales his hand, and it ends with a shot of Laurie holding a knife over Michael’s face. In order to bring the reboot trilogy (and perhaps the franchise too) to a proper end, there are theories about Laurie and Michael dying in Halloween Ends, as Laurie dying might be the only way to also kill Michael Myers. The two main leads of the Halloween movie series dying in Halloween Ends will bring their arcs to a full circle by having Laurie finally defeating The Boogeyman and Haddonfield getting rid of the “curse” that is Michael Myers after years of terror.
Of course, given the twists, changes, and overall disappointment of Halloween Kills, it’s very possible that Halloween Ends will take an unexpected turn that, as Curtis teased, will make viewers angry, but as long as the arcs of the main characters come to a proper end (something the franchise has failed to do with Michael Myers, who keeps surviving all types of deathly situations), fans of the Halloween franchise will surely be satisfied with whatever Halloween Ends has to offer to close the reboot timeline.
