Today, La Victoria is celebrating its grand opening in a sleek new Hayward restaurant space.
Known for its signature orange sauce, La Victoria opened its first location in 1998 in San Jose, where it now has five restaurants. The chain’s Hayward restaurant at 26953 Mission Blvd. — the only one outside the South Bay — opened about 12 years ago. But the business moved down the street to 27915 Mission in order to expand.
The building that was once Pepe Mexican Taqueria totaled 1,444 square feet. La Vic replaced it with a one-story, 3,200-square-foot restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows. There is seating for 76 customers inside and 20 on the front patio.
La Victoria’s plan could spur similar projects in the neighborhood, city Planning Commissioner Daniel Goldstein told the Bay Area News Group in 2019 when the project was announced and approved.
“A project like this, I think, makes it more attractive, not only for the people that already live and enjoy that area, but also for potential developers,” Goldstein said.
