The Ultimatum: Why Rae Is Receiving Viewer Criticism After Filming
Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On saw the bad behavior of many participants, but Rae Williams continues to receive viewer criticism after filming. Rae entered the show after issuing an ultimatum to her partner Zay Wilson. However, she left the show single and walked away with April Marie’s partner Jake Cunningham. Since many The Ultimatum viewers sympathized with Jake’s original partner April, some blamed Rae for “stealing” Jake from April. Rae has since attempted to defend and explain her actions to The Ultimatum viewers on platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, which has unfortunately only earned her more criticism.
Rae entered The Ultimatum with a strong desire to marry Zay. However, her trial marriage to Jake revealed her true kindred spirit. Rae opened up about her insecurities over Zay appearing single online and refusing to make it publicly clear that he was in a relationship. She also dealt with an inability to express her feelings, while Zay struggled with anger. Rae ultimately broke up with Zay after an explosive confrontation and seemingly left the show with Jake. However, she revealed at the reunion that she tried to work things out with Zay after the show before moving on to date a woman. However, Rae and Jake remain close friends after filming The Ultimatum.
Reddit user Powerful_Ticket_4548 shared a screenshot of Rae claiming on Instagram that she was not a "pick me girl," or a woman who aims to seek male validation. The user blasted Rae with the caption, "Rae IS definitely a pick me girl," even though the reality TV newcomer stated that she doesn't care if men like her or not. Many commenters began picking apart Rae’s post and calling her out for her consistently defensive behavior, as well as her potential “pick me girl” actions. “‘I cook, I clean, I have a degree and I know how to fuck,’ If that’s not pick-me vibes I don’t know what is,” one user wrote while quoting Rae’s original words. Other users criticized Rae for not being able to articulate what she loved about Zay.
While some commenters were harsh, other The Ultimatum viewers urged Rae to stop responding to her critics. “I wish she gained more self confidence after the show so she could stop responding to things like this,” one commenter wrote. Many users agreed that Rae was continuing to receive criticism in part because she felt the need to respond to her critics so often. Some commenters disagreed that Rae was seeking male acceptance, though they voiced that she did appear to want viewer approval. “Even if it's not men, she needs to be like[d] by people and her constant need to justify the show proves it,” another commenter weighed in.
While viewers seemed eager to insult Rae after The Ultimatum, she has taken accountability for her actions. She remained respectful to April throughout the show and is on good terms with her. Meanwhile, Rae made it clear that she struck her former partner Zay first and that violence is never acceptable. Rae also shared that she is single and in therapy, as she recognizes she needs to work on herself and learn how to express her emotions without shutting down. However, many The Ultimatum viewers enjoy nitpicking Rae since she is eager to respond with defensive words.
