Deaths are unavoidable in Demon Slayer, as characters constantly fight for their lives. Some deaths are sadder than others, though.
Demon Slayer audiences are excited for the upcoming season, which features the Swordsmith Village Arc. In this arc, we get to see more powerful demon slayers battling more powerful demons, which makes it all the more exciting. Of course, there will be characters here that will end up dead as well. Those who want to see a peek of what the anime will look like can watch the trailer, which has just been released.

While Demon Slayer characters are in a situation where they have to "kill or be killed", it isn't, particularly a pleasant experience for fans to watch. This is especially the case when their favorite characters, whether they are demon slayers or demons, are the one that ends up dying themselves, and deaths in this anime are quite common.
The Snake Hashira, Iguro Obanai may have first appeared to be arrogant and conceited due to his stance on Giyuu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado sparing Nezuko, Tanjiro's demon sister. After knowing his backstory, watchers would understand what made him like that.
Iguro was the only boy born in his family after centuries. His family has been getting wealthy from a demon giving them riches in exchange for people to eat. Due to being a male, he was spared just a little longer by the demon and scarred his face to resemble a snake. In his final moments, he wishes to meet his lover again if they are reincarnated. The story is extremely impactful for audiences and give a great yet tragic insight into the character.
Tamayo was one of the oldest demons created by Muzan. Since she had a disease as a human, she allowed herself to be turned into a demon after being tricked by Muzan so that she would be able to see her family grow up. Unfortunately, after being transformed, she ended up killing her entire family instead.
After realizing her actions, she ended up killing several more people in a fit of rage. Fortunately for her, she was freed from Muzan's bind after the Demon King was defeated, but not killed, by Yoriichi Tsugikuni. After regaining her sanity, she has since helped in defeating Muzan and ended up being absorbed by him. Audiences believe that after the tragedy that Tamayo went through, she deserved a better and happier ending.
The Upper Moon 1, Kokushibo uses the most breathing style forms and is Muzan's strongest demon. Before turning into one, he was a demon slayer named Michikatsu Tsugikuni who was extremely jealous of his brother Yoriichi's unnatural talents. After receiving the demon slayer mark, he let himself be transformed into a demon to live past the age of 25.
Kokushibo never lost the desire to surpass Yoriichi after becoming a demon, which is fueled by seeing Yoriichi living up to 85, and still retaining his power. Centuries later, after noticing how ugly he has become as a demon, he looks back and regrets his past decisions. Due to this, he lets the demon slayers finish him off, which showcases the tragedy as he dies full of regret and hatred.
Gyomei, the user of Stone Breathing, was the strongest Hashira in his generation. He is a blind man who once took care of several orphans, all of whom were killed after one of them sells them out to a demon. After beating up the demon, he was accused of killing the children, only to be released with the help of Kagaya Ubuyashiki
He was one of those who greatly contributed to defeating Muzan and even declined to be treated for his injuries. In his death, he meets the dead children, who accept his apology for his actions. He died with a tear on his face and smiling at the same time, being able to reunite with his loved ones again.
The former Thunder Hashira, Jigoro, was the teacher of Zenitsu Agatsuma and Kaigaku. He wasn't particularly successful though, as Zenitsu only managed to learn the first of the six (now seven) forms of Thunder Breathing Style, while Kaigaku learned everything but the first form.
Jigoro didn't die due to demons or old age, but because of suicide. When his former pupil Kaigaku turned into a demon to save his skin after meeting a much more powerful demon, he slit his stomach. It's especially sad how he died slowly and agonizingly. No one present could slice off his head as he was bleeding, which just makes it hurt doubly hard for viewers.
One of our favorite Hashiras, Shinobu Kocho is the Insect Hashira and the sister of the deceased Flower Hashira, Kanae Kocho. As a kid, their parents were killed by a demon. Thankfully, they were saved by the Stone Hashira, Gyomei. They then resolved to become demon slayers to prevent deaths.
Just like Kanae, Shinobu was also killed by the demon Doma. As fans have begun to shed tears after seeing her backstory and why she hates demons so much, she was absorbed by Upper Moon 2. Thankfully, she put lethal demon poison in her body, which helped Kanao Tsuyuri and Inosuke Hashibira finish him off.
Genya is the brother of the Wind Pillar, Sanemi, and one of the demon slayers who took the Final Selection with Tanjiro. Unlike the demon slayers who use breathing styles, he uses a gun and can eat demons and copy their Blood Demon Art, but can still walk under the Sun.
He was killed by the Upper Moon 1, Kokushibo, but not before helping the others take him down. As he was dying, his brother Sanemi regretted how strained their relationship have become, and wept as he begged the heavens to spare Genya. Like demons, his body disintegrated as he dies.
Muichiro is the Mist Hashira and the youngest of all Hashiras, even younger than the protagonist Tanjiro Kamado (a non-Hashira). Despite being the youngest, he is among the strongest, being able to beat Upper Moon 5 by himself. As a kid, his entire family was killed by demons, which prompted him to become a demon slayer.
He eventually dies after succumbing to his wounds after battling Upper Moon 1, who is also his ancestor. After his death, he eventually meets with his deceased brother, who berates him for dying at a young age and not growing old. It is sad how a talented and young person could die so early, which drives home the impact of the death.
Born as Hakuji, Akaza has lived his entire life in misery. He was beaten several times while stealing to provide for his dying father, who ended up committing suicide to stop Hakuji's crimes. After being taken in by a martial arts master to take care of his sick daughter (who became his fiancee), both were killed by a rival dojo.
Hakuji ended up killing 47 kendo masters into pieces while weaponless and became a demon afterward. While fighting Giyuu and Tanjiro in the Infinity Fortress, he remembers his depressing past, why he seeks strength so much and hears his dead loved ones beg him to stop. He eventually killed himself. Fans were sad to see him die in such a way, just as they began to like him.
Kotoha Hashibira was the mother of Inosuke Hashibira. After giving birth to Inosuke, she had to escape from her abusive husband to protect his child and ended up in the cult led by the Upper Moon 2, Doma, who took a liking to her and spared her life.
After realizing that Doma was a demon, she immediately escaped, which was futile, as Doma managed to chase her down to a cliff. Fans were heartbroken by Kotoha's decision to throw Inosuke into a river, hoping that he could survive, while she was eaten by Doma.
