Laura Whitmore hits back at Love Island star who claimed she just got job because of Iain Stirling
LAURA Whitmore has hit back at claims she only got her job on Love Island because of who her husband is.
Former contestant Rachel Finni made the shock comments in a recent podcast – insisting Laura “isn’t a great presenter” and landed the job because Iain Stirling is the narrator.
Laura, 36, responded to the “horrible” claims telling her followers: “I’ve worked in telly for 14 years. I won a competition to be the face of MTV and have stayed working from job to job.
“I’ve done incredible things all over the world, with the best teams, but I’ve never got a job because of a guy I dated.
“And it’s horrible when you see if coming from other women because for so many years women have talked about who they are going out with.
“They’re only defined by who they are going out with, despite all the work and build up leading up to that and they are their own individual person, with their own experience.”

She added: “It’s a shame because I think we’re never really going to have full power and empowerment as a sex if we keep doing that.”
Speaking on to Murad Merali’s YouTube channel about the upcoming series, she said, Rachel said: “I’m kind of gutted Laura Whitmore is hosting it though, I thought we’d get a Maya Jama or AJ Odudu.
“The benefits you get from being married to the narrator, cos let’s be honest she’s not a great host.”
Murad agreed with her, calling it “straight up nepotism”.

He added: “I think she suits Countdown, I’m not trying to be rude. The Weakest Link. An afternoon game show at 2pm.”
Rachel, 29, continued her critique, saying: “When you think Love Island you don’t think Laura Whitmore.”
She then praised former host, the late Caroline Flack, for her energy and love for the programme.
The Sun recently revealed Laura has signed a £500,000 one-year deal as the host of Love Island.
A source said: “There has been lots of speculation that Laura might be stepping down, or that other presenters were being lined up for the role.
“Laura and show executives always hoped she would re-sign — it was just a case of making sure timings worked.

The Irish former model took over from the late Caroline Flack in 2020 for the sixth series of the hit series.
