Southampton star Nathan Redmond savaged Arsenal following his side’s 1-0 victory at the weekend, downplaying the result for one reason.
Arsenal have been in good form for much of this season. They are currently sixth in the league, two places above where they finished for the past two campaigns.
Indeed, they have been battling for a top-four finish for much of this term. They are currently just three points behind rivals Tottenham, who occupy fourth spot.
There have been multiple high points from Mikel Arteta’s men this season. The five-game winning streak from February through to March was probably the best moment.
However, Arsenal have slipped up recently, losing each of their last three games.
They suffered a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at the start of the poor run. The Gunners were then beaten 2-1 by Brighton the following game.
Southampton compounded Arsenal’s woes last time out, as they beat them 1-0. That loss would have stung all the more, given Arsenal beat the Saints 3-0 at the Emirates.
Southampton winger Redmond, who came on from the bench in the win, made a savage comment towards Arsenal when asked his thoughts on the game.
“It’s alright,” he said, quoted by The Express. “They’re not very good.”
Arteta will surely want to get back to winning ways, following three straight losses. However, that will be all the more true given a player from a bottom-half club has savaged his side.
Arsenal do not have the easiest run of fixtures from now until the end of the season. As such, it may be easier said than done to turn things around during the last few.
The Gunners’ next three games see them take on Chelsea and West Ham away from home, and Manchester United at the Emirates in between those two games. They still have to play rivals Tottenham, too.
As such, their hopes of making it back into the top four for the first time since Arsene Wenger’s tenure at the club could be in tatters.
