Lewis Dunk has suggested Brighton’s game plan in their 1-0 win at Tottenham worked ‘perfectly’ as he sensed frustration brewing through the home support.
Spurs missed the opportunity to strengthen their grip on fourth place in the Premier League with Leandro Trossard poking home a late winner for the Seagulls.
Antonio Conte’s men looked a shadow of the free-scoring team that won each of the last four games, with Brighton suffocating most of the play on Saturday afternoon.
They ensured Spurs were unable to register a single shot on target throughout the encounter and kept the in-form trio of Heung-min Son, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski at bay convincingly.
Captain Dunk hailed the way his side performed and claimed he knew Brighton’s game plan was working when he could hear the frustration bubbling around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He told BT Sport: “The game plan, we executed it perfectly. You could hear the fans getting frustrated and the team getting frustrated. That’s what we came here to do.
“Our game plan worked and this little man [Leandro Trossard] finished it off at the end. It was amazing.”

Spurs just couldn’t get going against Brighton and that is to the away side’s credit. They set up to disrupt and stifle and they did that pretty effectively.
It wasn’t the performance the side needed to produce with a lot on the line still left to play for this season, but it might have just been a one-off. The best way to respond to that is by producing a confident display next time out against Brentford.
