To loot the Cargo Ship in Rust, players will need high-tier weapons and gear, including a vehicle to reach the mobile Monument across the water.
The Cargo Ship, also known as the "CCSC Lazarus," is a mobile Monument in Rust that spawns every 2 to 4 in-game days and circles the ocean portion of the world map. The massive freighter ship is guarded by at least twelve heavily armed blue Scientists. These onboard combatants possess shotguns, SMGs, and even assault rifles, collectively making them one of the most formidable NPC threats in Rust. Therefore, the Cargo Ship is going to be a late-game endeavor and shouldn't be attempted by novice or under-geared survivors.
Scientists are not the only danger when exploring the Cargo Ship. Other well-equipped players will also likely raid the vessel to contest for the high-tier loot. After all, this mobile Monument is a treasure haven full of weaponry, explosives, valuable components, and much more. Therefore, those looking to plunder the Cargo Ship should always be prepared for challenging PvP encounters in Rust.
To reach the Cargo Ship in Rust, players will first need a vehicle to cross the open water. The two primary options for this endeavor are the helicopter and boat variants. Scrap Transport Helicopters, commonly referred to as "Scrap Helis," can be purchased from the Bandit Camp for Scrap ×1250. Boats are the cheaper option and can be obtained from a Boat Vendor found in the Fishing Villages in Rust. Players can buy rowboats for Scrap ×200 and RHIB for Scrap ×400. Both vehicle types require Low-Grade Fuel, a resource obtained from random crate loot or crafting.
Unlike standard Monuments in Rust, the Cargo Ship features locked crates that, once activated, will begin a countdown of 15 minutes. Once the timer completes, the box will unlock, exposing an assortment of high-tier components and gear. Several locked crates can spawn on both the Cargo Ship's deck and interior. Every time one of these unique containers spawns, the freighter will blare its horn. Furthermore, the crate's icon will appear on the in-game map and will remain until looted.
While Rust players await the timed crates to unlock, they can find various basic and military containers throughout the ship's interior and exterior. While this activity can be carried out solo in Rust, it is highly recommended to have friends or team up with another survivor to gather all the loot quickly. Once the Cargo Ship is ready to leave the map, it will trigger a blaring siren, indicating that radiation levels will rapidly rise to a lethal level. During this time, players need to quickly make their escape using their helicopter or lifeboat located on the back of the freighter.
Rust is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
