Marvel unveils the first Thor: Love and Thunder poster showing Chris Hemsworth's titular hero wielding his powerful Stormbreaker on an alien planet. The latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees Thor retiring from being a superhero and embarking on a quest to try and find inner peace. Thor's retirement is upended, however, when Gorr the God Butcher arises with the goal to make gods extinct, requiring Hemsworth's hero to team up with King Valkyrie, Korg and Jane Foster to stop Gorr before it's too late.
Alongside Hemsworth, the cast for Thor: Love and Thunder will see the returns of Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Taika Waititi as Korg, Natalie Portman as Jane, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel and Sean Gunn as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster and Matt Damon, Sam Neill and Luke Hemsworth as Asgardian actors. Waititi is once again at the helm for the MCU fourquel with a script he co-wrote with Someone Great breakout Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. With production on Thor: Love and Thunder having wrapped this past June, audiences are getting their exciting first glimpses at the film.
With just a few months remaining until the film hits theaters, Marvel has revealed the first Thor: Love and Thunder poster. The key art sees Hemsworth's Norse god wielding his Stormbreaker axe while atop an alien planet mountain, with a caption describing him as "The One and Only". Check out the exciting poster below:
The first Thor: Love and Thunder poster comes on the heels of Marvel releasing the first trailer for the new movie, which revealed the story will see Hemsworth's titular hero ready to hang up his cape after years of devastating events. The trailer also notably revealed the first official glimpse at Natalie Portman's Jane wielding a repaired Mjolnir and donning her Mighty Thor suit. The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer also showed off the Guardians of the Galaxy's appearance in the film, namely as the group embark on multiple adventures prior to the titular hero's retirement.
While the first Thor: Love and Thunder poster may not show off as much as the trailer, it does offer solid insight to the tone and colorful style of the MCU fourquel. With its '80s style color palette harking back to films such as Heavy Metal and Thor trading in his Asgardian armor and cape for clothing similar to Star-Lord, echoing the joking rivalry between the two seen at the end of Avengers: Endgame, the key art looks to indicate the film is continuing Thor's journey towards brighter territory that Waititi started with Thor: Ragnarok. The wait for the film is nearly over as Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8.
