Premier League manager names old White Hart Lane as favourite away stadium
Steven Gerrard has named White Hart Lane as his favourite away stadium in the Premier League and admits he ‘used to love’ playing there for Liverpool during his career.
Spurs’ former stadium, which was the club’s home from 1899, was demolished in 2017 to make way for the completion of their new state-of-the-art arena.
Gerrard, whose playing career spanned 17 years for boyhood club Liverpool, managed to embark on plenty of outings on the hallowed turf in North London.
The now Aston Villa manager was asked to name his favourite away ground in the Premier League, to which he reminisced about Tottenham’s old home where he made his away debut for the Reds.
Gerrard told The Overlap: “I used to love White Hart Lane, the way it was filled in around the corners. I don’t know what it was, I mean, I made my debut there in terms of an away game so that was always special going back there, that would be the one I think.”
Spurs officially moved into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April 2019 after delays set back the club’s planned opening earlier in the 2018-19 season.

White Hart Lane was loved by so many people because it was authentic, as Gerrard himself has pointed out. It didn’t have the technology and facilities the new stadium boasts, but it was the centrepiece of the club due to its iconic history over the years.
