Better Call Saul Season 6 Will Be More Linked To Breaking Bad

Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk teases that the series will feature more crossovers with Breaking Bad than ever before. Breaking Bad, which ran on AMC from 2008 to 2013 and follows a high school teacher discovering he has a terminal illness and deciding to make quick money in the Alburqeque meth industry, is one of the most enduringly popular series of recent years. Its spinoff, Better Call Saul, which follows the origin story of Odenkirk's character Saul Goodman, an alias of small-time attorney Jimmy McGill, has now run for nearly as long and is preparing to enter season 6, its final season.

Better Call Saul has never been afraid of flaunting its ties to Breaking Bad, though they usually only cross over with minor characters from the original series. This includes rival dealer Krazy-8 (Max Arciniega), loveable waitress Fran (Debrianna Mansini), and the imposing Huell Babineaux (Lavell Crawford). Season 5 kicked things up a notch, reintroducing DEA special agents Hank Schrader (Dean Norris, who was a main character for every season of Breaking Bad) and Steven Gomez (Steven Michael Quezada), as well as The Disappearer Ed Galbraith (Robert Forster) and financier Peter Schuler (Norbert Weisser).

This week, Bob Odenkirk appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He had a lot to discuss, including his new book Comedy Comedy Drama Drama and his heart attack on the Better Call Saul set, but the conversation did eventually turn to the impending Better Call Saul season 6. During the conversation, Odenkirk revealed that "Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad have never been as closely intertwined as this new season coming up."

This news comes on the heels of the reveal that Breaking Bad characters Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston) would be appearing on Better Call Saul for the first time. Although they both appeared (in different capacities) in the franchise follow-up film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie in 2019, this appearance will actually take place before the events of the Breaking Bad finale. Given the fact that Walter and Jesse's Better Call Saul return has already been revealed, Odenkirk teasing even more overlap between the two series is certainly intriguing.

It's unclear exactly at what point during the Breaking Bad timeline Better Call Saul season 6 will take place. This information will likely be revealed in the first episode of the season, which is set to air on April 18, 2022. Once the episode drops, fans will surely be speculating about what other classic characters may appear in the show's final outing.
