Derek Carr, Raiders reportedly agree to 3-year, $121.5 million contract extension

The Las Vegas Raiders and their quarterback Derek Carr have reportedly agreed to a three-year, $121.5 million contract extension. Carr is the longest tenured quarterback in the AFC, and now he'll be extending his stay to at least 2025.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Carr is now set to make over $140 million in the next four years, with $100 million coming to him in the next three. He also reportedly has a no-trade clause.

Carr, 31, had reportedly been on the trade block several times over the past few years, but the Raiders now seem to be comfortable with leaving him where he is for at least the next few years. Carr himself already acknowledged the deal, though it hasn't yet been announced by the Raiders.

Carr was drafted by the Raiders in 2014 after several standout years at Fresno State, and it hasn't always been smooth sailing. On the field, no one had lost more games through his first six seasons (55) besides his brother, former QB David Carr. Five of his first six seasons with the Raiders were losing seasons, and it wasn't easy for keep the faith. Off the field, Carr's tendency to speak his mind and be forthright with his feelings, no matter what they are, has gotten him in trouble. But it's also revealed he's an empathetic and deep thinker who takes his job very seriously. He's dedicated to the Raiders, and wants himself and his team to be respected.

Carr has improved on the field nearly every year since he's been drafted. He finished the 2021 season with 4,804 passing yards, the most of his career, and averaging 282.6 passing yards per game, also a career-high.

Last time we saw Carr, he and the rest of the Raiders were smarting from a 26-19 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Wild Card Weekend. The Raiders front office took that pain and turned it into several moves they hope will get them all the way to the Super Bowl in the coming season. They've got a new GM, Dave Ziegler, and a new head coach, Josh McDaniels. They extended defensive end Maxx Crosby, signed defensive end Chandler Jones, and traded for wide receiver Davante Adams.

And now they've extended Carr, their lynchpin quarterback. The Raiders are coming to play in 2022, and they want everyone to know it.
