Paramount+ is releasing a miniseries about the making of the film The Godfather. Here's everything we know about The Offer's story, cast, and release.
The true story of the making of The Godfather is coming to TV, and here's everything we know about The Offer's story, cast, and release date. The Godfather is widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made. Released in 1972, the film was directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starred Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, and more. The Godfather launched a trilogy of movies, which concluded with the divisive 1990 sequel, The Godfather: Part III. Now, 50 years after the first film's release, Paramount+ plans to release The Offer, a series chronicling the development and production of The Godfather.
Paramount announced in 2020 plans for the Godfather show to go to its streaming service. The Offer is a miniseries created by Michael Tolkin and directed by Dexter Fletcher. The 10-episode series is one of the biggest pieces of original content for Paramount+ to date. While the streaming service has had great success with its various Star Trek TV shows and launched the long-awaited live-action Halo TV show in 2022, The Offer gives subscribers a chance to revisit another piece of Paramount's IP but in a different manner.
In the time since the making-of The Godfather TV show was announced, production started in July 2021 but had a few complications due to COVID-19. Paramount+ kicked off the marketing campaign for the series in early 2022, as posters, images, and a trailer arrived. All of the marketing has provided a good look at The Offer's cast and story ahead of its 2022 release date.
The story of The Offer directly revolves around the development and making of Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather. While audiences might be very familiar with the iconic gangster movie, the journey of bringing Mario Puzo's novel of the same name to life is where The Offer will shine its light. This means primarily focusing on producer Albert S. Ruddy, who was hired by Gulf & Western Industries and Paramount to make The Godfather. The show is said to tell his side of the "extraordinary" experience and behind-the-scenes secrets from the iconic 1972 Godfather film that audiences might not know about.
Miles Teller leads The Offer's cast as producer Albert S. Ruddy. He's joined by Matthew Goode as producer Robert Evans, Juno Temple as Ruddy's assistant, Bettye McCartt, Dan Fogler as director Francis Ford Coppola, Patrick Gallo as author Mario Puzo, Burn Gorman as Gulf & Western's head Charles Bluhdorn, Colin Hanks as Gulf & Western executive Barry Lapidus, and Giovanni Ribisi as mobster Joe Colombo. There will also be appearances by Justin Chambers and Anthony Ippolito as The Godfather cast members Marlon Brando and Al Pacino.
The Offer releases on Paramount+ on April 28, 2022. The Paramount+ streaming service will launch the Godfather show with three episodes releasing at the same time. Paramount+ will be the exclusive home of The Offer, so those interested will need to subscribe to Paramount's streaming service to watch the show. As is usual for most streaming services, new episodes release at 12:01 am PST/3:01 am EST. The Offer's new episodes release at that time every Thursday after April 28 until the series finale, which will release on July 16, 2022.
