The United States Charge’ d’Affaires for Afghanistan Ian McCary has welcomed the announcement by the supreme leader of the Taliban Mullah Hebtullah Akhundzada banning the cultivation, use, production, selling, buying, import, and export of poppies in Afghanistan.
Ian McCary said outlawing the production of narcotics in Afghanistan is a positive first step adding implementing the commandment will be key.
The US diplomat in his Twitter post wrote that legitimate and healthy agriculture will benefit Afghanistan and the Afghan people.
“Having a healthy and licit agricultural sector will help Afghanistan’s economy and ultimately the Afghan people.” Reads the Tweet.
On Sunday, the supreme leader of the Taliban issued a decree outlawing the cultivation and use of narcotics in Afghanistan and warned that those who oppose the decree will be held accountable under the Sharia law.
