Christine Ko will be joining the cast of The Handmaid’s Tale for the long-awaited fifth season, taking on the role of resistance leader Lily.
Christine Ko will be joining the world of Gilead in The Handmaid's Tale season 5. The show, based upon the 1986 novel by Margaret Atwood, first aired on Hulu in 2017 and has amassed an array of awards. It tells the story of a sexist dystopian society that has taken over the US after a disastrous civil war, wherein women are subjugated heavily and many of them are subjected to live as "handmaids," wherein they are forced to bear the children of powerful men. Starring Elizabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, and Alexis Bledel, the fifth season will pick up right where the fourth left off.
Now, as reported by THR, Upload and Dave star Christine Ko will reportedly be joining the cast for The Handmaid's Tale season 5. She will be taking on the role of Lily, a leader in the resistance movement. A strong, fierce character, Lily is a powerful ally to those that are able to gain her trust.
Whether or not the fifth season of the show is able to regain some of the critical acclaim that its earlier seasons garnered is yet to be seen. Whilst season 1 was incredibly well-received, many critics have begun to lose patience with some of the show's more repetitive elements and grim atmosphere. The introduction of a fierce resistance character might therefore prove to be the guiding light that the show needs, and help The Handmaid's Tale find its footing once again. So far, there is no confirmed release date for season 5, but sources say that it is expected sometime in 2022.
