Journalist backs Spurs player to ‘enhance his price tag’ ahead of the summer
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Steven Bergwijn’s impressive displays for the Netherlands during the recent international break would have enhanced the winger’s price tag ahead of the summer transfer window.
Bergwijn has struggled to get a run of starts under his belt since Antonio Conte took over at Tottenham five months ago.
The 24-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order since the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski, who has made an exceptional start to his Spurs career.
The former PSV Eindhoven man demonstrated his quality during the international break, netting a brace in the Netherlands’ 4-2 win over Denmark before finding the back of the net again in his nation’s 1-1 draw against Germany last Tuesday.
Bergwijn continued his impressive form in front of goal on Sunday, finding the back of the net for Spurs in their 5-1 demolition of Newcastle after coming on as a substitute.
The winger has been linked with an exit from the North London club this summer, with reports indicating that AC Milan have expressed an interest in signing him (CalicoMercato).
When asked about how Bergwijn’s recent form will affect a potential move, O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “Scoring goals, playing well for his country if he’s not getting many games for Tottenham, will only enhance his price tag in the summer transfer window.”

In fairness to Bergwijn, he has not had a run of starts to prove himself to Conte and he has almost always made an impact when he has come on as a substitute.
When he did get some starts under Jose Mourinho last season, there was a heavy defensive burden placed on the Dutchman, which meant that he did not have the freedom to display his attacking attributes.
Whoever signs Bergwijn this summer could potentially be getting a top-class, versatile attacker. So, Tottenham should certainly not let him go on the cheap.
