North Newton, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons won by a count of a 14-2 over the Bethel College Threshers in the first game today (Apr. 2) of a KCAC matchup in North Newton, Kan. But the Threshers won a pitcher's duel in the second game, 2-1.
The Falcons went up big early behind two RBIs each from Laila Spracklen (JR/San Diego, Calif. ) and Carolyn Dallimore (JR/Patterson, Calif. ) that fueled an 8-0 lead in the second inning.
Following a two-run homer by Taylor Sanfillippo in the bottom of the second that put Bethel on the board, Meghan Low (SR/Collinsville, Okla.) doubled home Aleigha Gale (SO/Winfield, Kan. ) before scoring on a triple by Vanessa Sigala (SO/Carson, Calif. ) to make it an eight-run game again.
Sigala then scored on a sacrifice fly by Priscilla Mora (FR/Beaumont, Calif. ) that continued the Falcons' surge of six unanswered runs that resulted in the run-rule victory.
Spracklen and Gale each had two hits in the first game win and Dallimore finished three runs driven in.
A native of San Diego, Calif., Spracklen also struck out eight hitters and allowed two runs on three hits in picking up the victory.
In the second tilt, a two-run double by Dakota Piovesan in the third frame accounted for all the runs the Threshers would need.
It was again Dallimore that helped put the Falcons on the board in the sixth when she singled and Sigala scored on an error.
But Reagan Robinson stranded runners at second and third by retiring her counterpart Isabelle Schwien (SO/Denver, Colo. ).
Schwien allowed just one earned run and struck out five in taking the hard-luck loss.
Robinson also gave up one run along with three strikeouts in seven innings for the Threshers.
Dallimore had two more hits for the Falcons in the second game setback.
Next up for the Falcons is a non-conference matchup vs. Central Christian College Monday evening (Apr. 4) at 5 pm at Two Rivers Youth Complex
