The growing pains for Angel City FC continued in its fourth game of the NWSL Challenge Cup.
For the third consecutive game, Angel City allowed at least three goals, losing to fellow expansion team San Diego Wave FC 4-2 on Saturday at Torero Stadium in front of 5,158.
The teams opened the Challenge Cup against each other March 19. That game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Diamond Bar native Alex Morgan scored in the last minute of first-half stoppage time and added another in the second half for San Diego (1-1-1, 4 points).
Angel City (0-3-1, 1 point) trailed 2-1 at halftime.
In the 60th minute, Christen Press scored her first goal for Angel City. Her initial shot was blocked, but she made sure the rebound was in an area no one could reach.
From there, San Diego pulled away. Morgan scored her second goal in the 72nd minute and Amirah Ali added the final one in the 81st minute.
The game caps a stretch of three games in eight days stretch for Angel City, in which it went 0-3 and allowed 10 goals.
Angel City will be off until April 17, when it will visit OL Reign for a 3 p.m. match. The final game of the Challenge Cup will be against Portland at 6 p.m. April 24 at Titan Stadium.
