Djed Spence has confirmed he wants to make the jump to playing in the Premier League, with Tottenham said to be keen on a potential transfer.
The Middlesbrough defender has been impressing during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest this season, which has put him on the map for a potential transfer this summer.
Sky Sports reported earlier this month that Spurs, Arsenal and Bayern Munich have been among those tracking the 21-year-old, whose Boro contract expires in 2024.
The Evening Standard reported this week that Spence could be available for just £12m this summer, with Spurs and Arsenal tipped for a potential bidding war.
And with the world seemingly at Spence’s doorstep at present, he admits that a step up to life in the Premier League is an ambition of his going forward.
However, the England U21 international also played down talk a potential lucrative move by reaffirming his focus on helping Forest continue their fight for a playoff spot come the end of term.
Spence said (via Mirror): “I always want to push myself and play with the best players and best team. Of course it’s an ambition of mine to play in the Premier League.
“I try to stay level-headed. I don’t read too much into it. At the end of the day, I’m just here to enjoy my football. I need to stay focused, have tunnel vision and play well on the pitch.”
In 37 appearances, Spence has notched three goals and five assists this season (Transfermarkt) while producing a number of strong performances during Forest’s run to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Spurs Web Opinion
Spence continues to drop hints about wanting to play Premier League football in the near future, and that is something that should give Spurs plenty of reason to pursue a transfer.
He has been excellent this season and will only have room to grow which is a big drawing point. Plus the fact that an array of teams are looking at him shows how well he has been doing.
