An observant Elden Ring player has discovered that Latenna the Albinauric, a non-player character and Spirit Ash summon, has a secret hidden ability. FromSoftware's open-world fantasy epic lets players collect a vast array of Spirit Ashes, which allow them to summon helpful spirits in particularly difficult areas. Latenna's questline in Elden Ring turns the skilled archer into a powerful spirit companion, though she apparently possesses another method of fighting too.
As an open-world soulslike adventure, Elden Ring gives players a huge selection of options to customize their character and prepare to die in battle. A wide selection of different weapons are available, ranging from massive greatswords for strength-based characters to crystal scepters for studiers of magic. Elden Ring's armor sets are both fashionable and functional, letting players create their ideal Tarnished adventurer with an outfit befitting their playstyle. Spirit Ashes, which let players summon aid in the form of unique spirits, are also in abundant supply through The Lands Between. Different spirit summons in Elden Ring possess different abilities, ranging from long-range support characters to mobs of aggressive melee fighters.
Latenna the Albinauric is one of Elden Ring's most useful summons, and Reddit user neoPie recently found a way to increase her strength. When players first meet Latenna she has recently lost her wolf companion, Lobo, which removes her mobility and makes her a completely stationary archer. However, neoPie found that Latenna is capable of mounting enemy wolves, transforming her into a mobile ranged juggernaut. Unfortunately, the wolf will continue to attack the player alongside other nearby hostiles. While Latenna mounting a wolf may be a glitch, her connection to the wolf Lobo suggests that it is actually an intended feature.
Latenna's wolf mount makes her a very powerful summon, but one Elden Ring Spirit Ashes mod gives users access to an even more unstoppable ally. The hilarious mod allows players to summon a Mausoleum, massive turtle-like creatures that roam specific areas and carry structures used to duplicate boss remembrances. The massive ally is easily capable of accidentally killing the Tarnished that summoned it, but its unstoppable footsteps and devastating area-of-effect jump attack are also able to make short work of an entire village of enemies.
Elden Ring contains many hidden secrets just waiting to be discovered, and Latenna's ability to mount an enemy wolf is likely one such detail. The Albinauric archer is rendered immobile following the loss of her beloved wolf Lobo, so it seems fitting that she would take any opportunity to mount a different wolf during combat. The ability could actually be a bug, but it nonetheless gives Latenna much greater versatility as an ally.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
