Source reinforces Arsenal love for Mikel Arteta; reveals when contract talks will occur

An Arsenal source claims the Gunners have no plans to replace Mikel Arteta in the dugout, while also revealing when the Spaniard will be in line for a new contract.

Arsenal had a tough start to the campaign, losing their first three Premier League matches. But it has been an upward trajectory since then, and they are now favourites to reach fourth spot.

Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham are also aiming to get the final Champions League qualification place.

However, Arteta’s men are in the driving seat. They have an advantage both in terms of points and games in hand.

The coach is getting Arsenal to play an attractive style of football, too. The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Alexandre Lacazette are linking up extremely well in attack.

Recently, surprising reports put Brazil manager Tite in contention to replace Arteta at the Emirates. His close relationship with Arsenal technical director Edu was given as the main reason.

Tite soon came out to dispel the rumours, plus sending an apology to Arteta and the club’s fans.

Update on Mikel Arteta future

Arsenal insider Charles Watts has now given an update on Arteta’s future. He claims the former midfielder will soon engage in contract talks with Arsenal.

“Arsenal are absolutely happy with Mikel Arteta,” Watts said on his YouTube channel.

“Everyone you speak to at the club is delighted with how things are going with Mikel Arteta.

“Everyone has bought into his way of thinking and the plan from top to bottom. The players, directors and owners. It’s all working well.

“Arsenal are absolutely not considering the prospects of Mikel Arteta leaving and bringing in another coach. Contract talks will happen very soon with Mikel Arteta and I fully expect him to sign a new contract.”

According to transfermarkt, Arteta’s current terms run out in 2023. This is another reason why talks are expected to begin in the near future.

As per a report from The Sun in February, Arteta could receive a large pay rise. They claim owner Stan Kroenke is willing to offer a three-year extension amounting to £25million.

That would see Arteta take home around £8.3m each year, the same amount as Arsene Wenger in his final spell of management.
