According to the print edition of Portuguese outlet O Jogo (29/03/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness), Benfica will demand a substantial fee for rumoured Tottenham target Darwin Nunez this summer.
Nunez has been on fire in front of goal this season, having found the back of the net 26 times in all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).
The Athletic reported this week that agent Jorge Mendes had approached the Uruguayan international about replacing Harry Kane at Spurs this summer.
O Jogo have now shed more light on Nunez’s future and the chances of the striker leaving the Estadio da Luz this summer.
The report reveals that the striker has a €150m (£127.2m) release clause in his contract but Benfica would be willing to sell him for around €80m (£67.8m), with 20 per cent of the profit being owed to the player’s former club, Almeria.
The report explains that Nunez’s contract with his current representative Edgardo Lasalvia is expiring this summer and Mendes is keen to represent the striker.
It is suggested that Lasalvia would want the 22-year-old to seal a transfer this summer as he is entitled to 10 per cent of the profit if his client is sold by Benfica before the end of June.
Spurs Web Opinion
Nunez is certainly a top talent and has age on his side. However, there is no guarantee that he would hit the ground running in the Premier League. I also do not think the Uruguayan would want to come to Spurs unless Kane leaves this summer as he would want to be the first choice number nine.
