Cousins Paris Harvey and Kuaron Harvey were streaming on Instagram live. As Paris held the gun it went off, shooting Kuaron in the head.
Paris then shot herself, but her mother Shinise Harvey says it was a “freak accident.”
“(Paris) dropped the gun, and it fell, and it went off, to my knowledge.”
“And then when she picked it up, she picked it up by the barrel and it went off. That’s all I know … It was not a suicide. It was just a freak accident.”
The children were at a family get-together and Shinise says she didn’t know Paris had gotten the gun and she doesn’t know where she found it.
St. Louis Metropolitan Police Maj. Ryan Cousins urged residents to use gun locks.
“As an agency, we will come out and teach everyone how to use them,” Cousins said. “We do understand people are going to own guns; however, to protect these children, we want to ensure these guns are secured safely.”
