Actor John Travolta adopts the puppy held by Jamie Lee Curtis during her Betty White tribute at the Academy Awards ceremony. White died December 31, 2021, just weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She was honored by industry professionals and fans from all over the world for her long career in entertainment, on both stage and screen. During the 94th Academy Awards, she was one of the few actors to receive special attention with a heartfelt message delivered on stage by an actor.
Following World War II, White began her career in radio before switching over to television in 1949, co-hosting a live variety show called Hollywood on Television. In 1952, she created the sitcom Life with Elizabeth, which earned the actor her first Emmy win. Around the same time, she also hosted and produced her own variety show that was later nationally televised by NBC, but received criticism from Southern TV stations for including a Black tap dancer on the show. In response, White promoted the dancer to a series regular, and her show was cancelled soon thereafter. But of course, White showed no signs of slowing down as she became a mainstay on American television for decades to come. One of her biggest roles came with the hit show The Golden Girls in which she played Rose Nylund, one of four elderly single women sharing a house in Miami.
Now, Curtis shares a picture of Grease star Travolta standing with his son Ben holding the puppy Mac & Cheese, who Curtis cradled while delivering her tribute to White during the In Memoriam portion of the Oscars. She writes that, after the award show segment, she received a photo showing Travolta with the dog in the Dolby Theater green room before his presentation of the Best Actor award. A day later, Curtis learned that Travolta and his son had adopted the dog. Check out the original post below:

Throughout White's long acting career, she has been an animal welfare advocate, working with many animal rights and preservationist groups throughout the years. In addition to her acting prizes, White received the National Humanitarian Medal, American Humane's highest honor. Curtis bringing a puppy to the Oscars in a tribute to White was not just honoring the woman, but also her great achievements for the welfare of animals all over the world.
Travolta didn't speak during the Oscars' In Memoriam segment, nor did he mention White during his presentation of the Best Actor award alongside Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson. However, his adoption of the puppy still paid a great tribute to the venerated actor and philanthropist. Even though White has passed on, her presence is still felt through her contributions to entertainment and beyond.
