Redwood scored early then held on to defeat a hard-charging Novato baseball squad, 8-6, on Tuesday.
The Giants scored two runs on an error on their way to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Redwood tallied 10 hits in the game, led by Matt Jessen and Rex Solle, who had two hits each.
Rory Minty scattered four hits and four runs across 4 1/3 innings, while striking out five for the win.
Novato racked up five hits in the game, with Derek Bartram and Andy Gates collecting two hits each. The Hornets rallied from a 7-4 deficit after five innings with two runs in the top of the sixth. The Hornets could not keep the momentum rolling into the seventh, however.
• Brad Burnes homered and singled to drive in four runs and help power Marin Catholic past San Rafael, 13-5.
Marin Catholic led 10-0 before San Rafael scored four runs in the sixth inning, with RBIs from Ryan Fernandez, Jack Healy, Anthony Gill and Cash Allen.
The Wildcats scored one run in the second and then rolled to a 5-0 lead with four runs in the third, boosted by Carl Schmidt’s home run. Kody Perry and Barnes muscled up at the plate for a big five-run fifth inning for the Wildcats.
Schmidt held the Bulldogs to just one hit during five scoreless innings to pick up the win. He struck out six batters and walked one.
Marcos Tolliver led San Rafael with two hits in two at bats.
Ryan Shimabukuro pitched six scoreless innings and Deven Kirtley hit a solo blast as College of Marin outpaced Los Medanos, 9-2, in Kentfield.
The Mariners went on a three-run binge in the third inning, then Kirtley’s homer in the fourth gave Marin a 4-0 lead. A five-run seventh inning sealed the win for the Mariners.
Steven Elsner was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while designated hitter Eric Woodrow was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs to lead the Mariners.
Shimabukuro gave up six hits and struck out five batters to earn the win.
Luke Downs, Jesse Chi, Kash Connors and Arseniy Korolev each won their singles matches in two sets as San Marin swept visiting San Rafael, 7-0, on Tuesday. Korolev moved up from No. 8 on the ladder to take on the No. 4 singles role.
• Despite splitting singles play, Branson held tough to defeat Archie Williams, 5-2 at Canon Club. The Falcons’ Luke Tuscher defeated Jake Magnusson at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 7-5. The Falcons’ Herschel Pell, No. 13 on Archie Williams’ strength ladder, won 6-2, 4-5, 10-8, at No. 4 singles.
Branson’s Henry Pratt won, 6-4, 5-7, 11-9, at No. 3 singles and Max Goldman won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Marin Academy defeated Bay, 184-203, as the schools challenged the par-36 Presidio Course in San Francisco on Tuesday. Charley Hanson was the low medalist for the Wildcats (2-1) with a 42, followed by Oliver Vilkin’s 46. Bay’s Aiden Lee was the overall medalist with a 41.
Brittany Casper pitched a one-hitter as San Marin defeated Archie Williams, 6-0, Monday. Casper, who struck out six batters in seven innings on the mound, was equally impressive at the plate. She was 3 for 3, with a triple and two RBIs. Lauren Fong was 2 for 2 with two RBI. Savannah Reynolds doubled and drove in a run, while Charley Conner registered a triple.
• Kelsey McNair accounted for six RBIs with a triple and a grand slam during San Rafael’s 20-0 victory ver Novato on Monday. Angel Amesa and Thomara Drummer each doubled twice.
McNair struck out four batters in two innings without allowing a hit to get the win. Drummer struck out five batters and gave up one hit in two innings of relief work. Megan Murphy closed out the game with one strikeout in the fifth inning.
