FromSoftware players will always come up with the most annoying ways to kill you. Messages that say “Try jumping ahead” are placed in front of deadly chasms. Beams of deadly magic melt you as soon as you spawn in. Speedy, naked players stab you repeatedly in the back.
Of course, all of this is well within the rules created by the developers. In Elden Ring, however, players are using an exploit to ruin your day – an exploit that comes in the form of invisible magic projectiles.
The exploit is triggered by using the Carian Retaliation Ash of War, which allows you to parry magical projectiles with a shield. Unfortunately, this can also be used to parry your own magic, which then turns invisible and deals extra damage based on how upgraded your shield is (thanks, Kotaku).
We can all ignore player messages designed to kill us, we have a chance to roll away from deadly magical beams, and those backstabbing players might be annoying, but you can beat them if you’re skillful enough. Invisible magic projectiles? Not so much.
FromSoftware has been good at fixing exploits such as this so far, so hopefully, there will be a new Elden Ring patch to address this particular problem in the near future. For now, be careful out there.
