Strut Through Spring With the Latest Converse X PLAY Comme Des Garçons Collab
Two powerhouse brands — one streetwear and one high-fashion — have joined forces once again in the form of another limited-edition shoe collaboration. Comme des Garçons and Converse are launching a new Converse x PLAY Comme des Garçons Chuck 70 sneaker in two colours and two heights. Available in high and low top, and in black and white premium canvas, the sneaker features the signature heart-and-eyes logo from Comme des Garçons’ PLAY line — the playful, streetwear side of the brand — on its side and is finished with a red midsole and foxing with a contrast pinstripe.
This is not the first time these two brands have teamed up. Originally released in 2009, the Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star saw a pair of chucks with the red heart-and-eyes logo, designed by graphic artist Filip Pagowski — but it really took off when the brands went at it again in 2015, debuting a more evolved model — the Comme des Garçons PLAY x Converse Chuck 70s.
The Japanese fashion label has collaborated with other streetwear and sneaker brands such as Vans and Nike, but it’s their collaborations with Converse that seem to draw the most attention. It’s the fusion of something that’s known for luxe appeal (even if it’s their more streetwear-inspired line) with something traditionally casual that somehow makes it all the more irresistible.
For this iteration, the first-ever Converse x PLAY Comme des Garçons design is once again reimagined and further modernized. The red midsole is an extra fun touch, and one that is highlighted in the photography for the new collection, shot by renowned fashion photographer Craig McDean and led by co-creative directors Ronnie Cooke Newhouse and Karl Bolander.
For $200 CAD, they’re the perfect pair of kicks to add to your spring wardrobe. Snag a pair for yourself upon their release on March 24, at Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market stores globally (with some exceptions), and other select retailers.
