Human Resources, the spinoff series of Netflix's Big Mouth, has hit the streaming platform, and here's everything we know about Human Resources season 2. Big Mouth previously introduced a plethora of monsters that are behind the human experience. Hormone monsters, the Shame Wizard, Depression Kitty, and more all work in the human resources department. Human Resources follows these monsters back to their home office, revealing the average day in the life of a monster behind the scenes.
Human Resources features some familiar faces from Big Mouth, including the beloved Connie and Maury, along with some brand new faces, like Emmy. Emmy is an amateur Lovebug who is a little bit of a hot mess. When she's handed a new client, Becca, who is about to have a baby, she is forced to learn on the job as she guides Becca through the trials of motherhood along with the rest of Becca's team.
While the show focuses on the monsters behind human emotion, it manages to humanize emotions themselves. Each monster has their own loves, struggles, and desires. Human emotions are messy and portraying them in a familiar format most can relate to —the office — makes it easier to laugh at the ridiculousness that is our own emotions. With the first season easily setting up another installment, here's everything that's known so far about a potential Human Resources season 2.
So far, Netflix has yet to greenlight a Human Resources season 2. However, the spinoff has received a warm reception from critics, and creators Kelly Galuska and Andrew Goldberg have confirmed they're interested in Human Resources season 2. It's also worth noting that animation is less expensive to produce than live-action, and what Netflix would consider a successful return on investment with Human Resources is likely not as high a bar as its scripted live-action shows. With all of this in mind, Human Resources season 2 is very likely.
Human Resources season 1 featured a vast spectrum of cast and characters. Staple characters like Maury (Nick Kroll), Connie (Maya Rudolph), and Big Mouth's lovebug crew — Sonya (Pamela Adlon), Rochelle (Keke Palmer), and Walter (Brandon Kyle Goodman) — are all very likely to return. Newly introduced characters, including Emmy and Pete the Logic Rock (Randall Park) will also likely be returning if Human Resources gets a second season. There is always room for more Big Mouth characters to make a cameo in Human Resources season 2 following Andrew Glouberman's brief appearance in Human Resources season 1.
Like Big Mouth's cast, the characters of Human Resources follow the wax and waning of human emotions, meaning there are plenty of stories that Human Resources season 2 could follow. The end of Human Resources season 1 left the department in a mess as a hurricane ravaged the office. As the monsters try to pick up the pieces, they are left to navigate their own shifting relationships and the ever-changing lives of their humans. Emmy's development in her job has also left her with an overflowing list of clients, which could make for an interesting storyline for Human Resources season 2 to explore.
While Human Resources season 2 may not have been greenlit just yet, Big Mouth's release schedule gives audiences a good idea of a potential release date. So far, Netflix has released one season of Big Mouth per year and its spinoff would almost certainly be the same. If Human Resources follows the same formula, Human Resources season 2 could be hitting the streaming platform by early 2023.
Big Mouth season 5 hit Netflix on November 5, 2021. Following its typical release schedule, the animated series is on track to release Big Mouth season 6 in late 2022. So, unless there is some unforeseen delay in production or post-production, Big Mouth season 6 will happen before Human Resources returns for its second season.
