Ancient Death Rancor is a Death Sorcery in Elden Ring that fires a ghostly horde of vengeful souls at a single target. Tarnished building a necromancer or hybrid Faith/Intelligence build will find this Sorcery Spell to be of great utility in both PvP and PvE fights, thanks to its homing ability. Demanding stat requirements of 34 Intelligence and 24 Faith in Elden Ring, Ancient Death Rancor costs 24 FP to cast and includes a charged Spell variant as well.
As mentioned above, the deadly spirits channeled from Ancient Death Rancor will chase down enemies. As a result, hybrid mages battling nimble elite enemies like Black Knife Assassins or bosses capable of dodging, such as Malenia, can utilize Ancient Death Rancor to ensure they land their attacks. Moreover, pairing the Spell with Prince of Death's Staff can further enhance the Sorcery's potency for dealing greater damage. To find this powerful Death Sorcery, Tarnished must search the region of Liurnia of the Lakes.
To get Ancient Death Rancor in Elden Ring, Tarnished must defeat a Death Rite Bird, a Field Boss which only spawns after nightfall. This specific Death Rite Bird can be found slightly to the northeast of the South Raya Lucaria Gate. The closest Site of Grace is at Gate Town North, just north of the Field Boss's spawn point.
Those who have yet to activate the Gate Town North's Grace can travel to the South Raya Lucaria Gate and jump off the west side of the bridge atop Torrent. The lethal damage from the fall can be avoided by landing on the large rock jutting upward down below. Afterward, Tarnished can pass under the bridge and towards the Field Boss's location. Still, be mindful of the Lesser Runebear that lives under the bridge.
The Death Rite Bird can appear in multiple spots around the island ruins just south of Gate Town North. First, make sure the time of day is night for the boss to spawn. If it doesn't emerge the first time, return to the Site of Grace and reload the area by choosing nighttime again in Elden Ring. After the beast spawns, defeat it to acquire Ancient Death Rancor. The death bird will be equipped with a magical staff which it will use to either cast Death Sorceries or smash the player. Challengers with high burst damage can quickly take down the Field Boss, as it has little HP. However, its high damaging attacks might be a problem for more tanky players with lower attack power. Therefore, be patient for it to use its abilities and strike while preparing for another attack.
