Dana Snyder, the voice of Master Shake, offers an update on the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. Aqua Teen Hunger Force, created by Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro, began as an Adult Swim show on Cartoon Network in 2000. It ran for 11 seasons spanning 15 years and 140 episodes before ending in 2015. At the time, Aqua Teen Hunger Force was Adult Swim's longest-running series, a title now held by Robot Chicken. The show followed the bizarre misadventures of three fast food-themed roommates, Frylock, an order of fries, Meatwad, a meatball, and Master Shake, a milkshake.
Last year, Adult Swim announced that it would be producing new films for some of its cult-classic shows, including The Venture Bros., Metalocalypse, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Aqua Teen Hunger Force previously had a film released in theaters in 2007 called Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters, which explored the origins of the characters while they battled an immortal piece of exercise equipment. Now, Aqua Teen Hunger Force is set for a new film, which will air exclusively on HBO Max.
While speaking with RVA Mag, Snyder offered an update on the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie. Snyder explains that the movie will start in the present day while also detailing to audiences what has happened since the series ended. He stated that the three central characters are no longer together, though he didn't elaborate on what caused the split. However, Snyder did provide the initial setup for the story, which will focus on getting the characters back together. Check out Snyder's comments below:
"The movie picks up right now, and fills you in on everything. They are not together, for reasons I will not divulge. They do the classic ‘We’ve got to get the band back together.'"
Given the nature of the show and prior film, the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie will likely focus on an odd story befitting the fast-food protagonists while also being played for laughs. The new film could also feature other recurring characters from the series, like Ignignokt, Err, Dr. Weird, and the trio's neighbor, Carl Brutananadilewski. However, outside of Snyder's comments, story details are scarce.
No release date has been announced for the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, though Snyder is confident it will debut this summer. Given that Aqua Teen Hunger Force has been off the air since 2015, combined with the current streaming market, having the new movie stream exclusively on HBO Max offers the perfect venue while also assuring financial returns, which it would likely struggle to deliver on via theatrical distribution. However, the trio is set for a spinoff series called AquaDonk Side Pieces, likely to premiere later this year, which could bring more viewers to the film. Further details on the new Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie will be forthcoming as the project develops.
