A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting murder following an axe attack in Suffolk.
Suffolk Police said a 39-year-old had been detained after the attack on Saturday evening after being called to the Bell Hotel on Market Hill, Clare.
The victim, a man in his 30s, is in a stable condition in Addenbrooke’s Hospital, police say.
He is said to have suffered a serious head injury.
The alleged attacker was arrested on Sunday morning in Bury St Edmunds on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was then taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and was later further arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
A police spokesman said: ‘While enquiries are at an early stage, police believe this is an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.’
Police were called at around 8.15pm on Saturday night after reports that a man had attacked a person with an axe.
A police cordon was in place but has now been removed.
