SXSW festival shooting latest – Gunman opens fire near South by Southwest in Austin leaving at least four shot
A GUNMAN has opened fire near the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Austin, Texas, leaving at least four shot.
Cops said they’ve arrested a suspect in connection to the shooting.
The incident took place around 2.50am near E 6th Street and Neches Street early Sunday morning.
Streets were cleared by cops while emergency crews transferred four people with injuries to a nearby hospital.
Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The suspect was thought to be working alone and had been on the run for two hours before being apprehended by police.
The streets were reopened an hour later.
SXSW, which made its return to Texas following a two-year hiatus caused by Covid, normally attracts tens of thousands of people.
The shooting happened near the Alma Ritz historic theatre, which is one of 10 venues hosting this year’s festival.
It runs from March 11 to March 20.
