NASCAR at Atlanta: See the knockout-style qualifying order for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500

UPDATE: Because of inclement weather Friday, NASCAR canceled practice, as well as qualifying for Saturday to make time for practice instead. So Chase Briscoe will start on the pole, and the remainder of the starting lineup was determined using the formula NASCAR implemented the last couple seasons in lieu of qualifying.

After opening the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season with four different winners in the first four races, drivers and teams are at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend — with practice and qualifying — for Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 (3 p.m. ET, FOX).

Qualifying for the race is set for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET on FS1. But with NASCAR’s new format for qualifying this year, the process isn’t the same at every track (superspeedways vs. short tracks vs. road courses and on and on).

For Atlanta, the field is divided into two groups based on the finishing order from the previous race — the Ruoff Mortgage 500 at Phoenix Raceway last Sunday in this case — set by odd and even finishing positions. Those two groups will participate in a one-lap single-car qualifying round, and the top-5 drivers from each group will move on to the next round and compete for the pole with another single-lap run each.

So ahead of Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, here’s a look at the qualifying order for all 37 drivers entered.
