Rihanna is going to start selling merch in the metaverse
Looks like Rihanna might be expanding her beauty and fashion empire into the metaverse.
According to US trademark attorney Josh Gerben, on March 14, the singer and businesswoman filed a number of trademark applications to offer Fenty cosmetics and products in a ‘virtual’ format in the metaverse.
This news comes days after a report that Savage X Fenty is eyeing a nearly £2 billion IPO valuation.
It’s unclear what form of digital products will be on offer from the 34-year-old singer but she seems to be on track with the rest of the industry.
In March, the first fashion week on all the Web 3.0 will be held in Decentraland – a metaverse platform accessible through virtual reality headsets.
Who is selling in the metaverse?
The metaverse is the next big thing when it comes to merch and celebs and brands are wasting no time getting involved.
Celebrities like Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg and Lindsay Lohan have gotten into the metaverse via platforms like The Sandbox or Decentraland, in a bid to offer a new way to bring their music or products to people who cannot physically attend their stores or concerts or who simply prefer to enjoy them from the comfort of their home.
Other major brands such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, L’Oréal, Victoria’s Secret and Puma have also invested in the metaverse.
Just last month, McDonald’s registered for 10 trademarks in the virtual space signalling the fast food’s expansion into the metaverse.
