Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser Mikhail Podolyak believes that the agreement on a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine may take from several days to one and a half weeks.
“At the moment, both the Russian and Ukrainian delegations stand on their positions. The agreement on the disputed points can take from several days to one and a half weeks. During this time, we should get closer to drawing up a peace treaty,” Podolyak said in an interview with Wirtualna Polska.
According to him, one of the key aspects of the peace treaty on the Ukrainian side is the “immediate withdrawal of Russian troops.”
At the same time, he noted that in addition to Russia and Ukraine, representatives of Poland are participating in the negotiations.
“Negotiations are a large-scale process in which not only Russia and Ukraine participate. Poland, in particular, participates in it. We do not just sign some kind of agreement. We want to develop a specific mechanism that will guarantee our security in the future,” Podolyak said.
He noted that the signing of a peace treaty “can only put an end to the acute phase of the conflict and allow us to move on to mourning all the dead and rebuilding the country.”
“However, I doubt that for the Ukrainians the war will end there. Not after everything we’ve been through,” Zelensky’s adviser said.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.”
For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out “demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces only strike at military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops. With the support of the Russian Armed Forces, the DPR and LPR groups are developing an offensive, but there is no talk of the occupation of Ukraine, the Russian president stressed.
