RAMONA, Calif. – The SDCC men's team has been firing on all cylinders this season and the latest NAIA Coaches Poll reflected this. Moving up two spots to #13 in the nation, the program is now the highest-rated team on the west coast.
Tuesday's matchup reaffirmed what the poll suggests. The #13 San Diego Christian College Hawks ran roughshod over the visiting Merrimack College Warriors at Riviera Oaks Resort & Racquet Club. SDCC surprised their NCAA Division 1 guests, easily defeating them 4-0.
The tone was set early during the doubles competition where San Diego Christian swept all three matches. Chris Papa and Luis Hochenauer took down the Warriors' #1 team 6-3, Nick Neinhaus and Julius Kaufmann won 6-2 and the pairing of Robin Van den Hoek and Laurenz Grabia piled on with a 6-4 victory.
The singles portion was just as dominant for the Hawks. Papa, Nienhaus, Hochenauer, Kaufmann and Van den Hoek all cruised to relatively easy wins to clinch the match.
San Diego Christian will rely on their outstanding form as they return to GSAC play on Saturday, March 19 when they host the William Jessup Warriors in Ramona.
