The Iron-Spider armor from Avengers: Infinity War has been added to the Marvel's Avengers game. This addition builds on the variety of costumes for Marvel's Avengers' playable superheroes inspired by their movie and comic counterparts.
Spider-Man was added to Marvel's Avengers via a PlayStation exclusive DLC in 2021, which was a controversial move in itself due to the character's massive popularity. The DLC didn't offer up story content or new maps in the same way that Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, or Black Panther's Marvel's Avengers DLCs did via their Hero missions. Developers at Crystal Dynamics explained this was a result of its exclusivity, as the team wanted to focus its efforts on content that everyone can enjoy, but did make it so that something resembling a story could be played via challenges using the game's pre-existing maps. As with all of the other playable heroes, however, Spider-Man came with a variety of additional costumes. These costumes ranged from the Classic costume, a look based on his earlier comic appearances, to the Noir costume from the Spider-Man: Noir comics run, which also appeared in games such as Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Insomniac's Spider-Man game for the PS4.
Marvel's Avengers' Twitter account revealed the latest in-game costume for Spider-Man, based on the Iron Spider armored suit from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside a March 17th release date for the skin. In the MCU, the suit is made from fellow Avenger Iron Man's nanotechnology, as he tried to provide the teenage superhero, Spider-Man with some more protection when offering him the chance to join the Avengers in Spider-Man: Homecoming. This came in handy when Spider-Man joined Iron Man and other Avengers in space in his next appearance in Avengers: Infinity War.
Outside of the movies, the Iron Spider armor has appeared in Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man as part of the 28 alternative suits included at launch. In Marvel's Spider-Man, the Iron Spider armor granted players an ability that gave them access to the suit's metallic spider legs - dubbed the "Iron Arms" in the game - regardless of what suit they wear. A more comics-accurate portrayal of the red and gold Iron-Spider armor was also added in later DLC but has yet to make an appearance in Marvel's Avengers.
New costumes are regularly being added to Marvel's Avengers, giving players the chance to replicate their favorite Marvel superheroes' look from a variety of comic, TV, or movie arcs, whilst also offering up original designs exclusive to the game. As a result, it's interesting for Marvel fans to see where from the wealth of Marvel media the developers will pull inspiration from next.
